Read: Acts 2:1-4, 41-47

Memory Verse: Acts 2:47

Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

I was watching the local news the other night and they reported that there were three brush fires and two house fires started by stray sparks from fireworks on Oahu on Monday night. Fortunately, they were able to get them all under control quickly and no major damage was done. A little spark can spread very quickly.

There was a very popular Christian song when I was growing up called “It Only Takes a Spark”.

It only takes a spark to get a fire going,
And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing;
That’s how it is with God’s Love,
Once you’ve experienced it,
You spread the love to everyone
You want to pass it on.

You can be the spark that the Holy Spirit uses to start a fire in your neighborhood, at your workplace, or even in the church. It can be the spark of the Gospel and seeing people get saved. It might be the spark of caring and compassion for others that spreads through your neighborhood. Or maybe it can be the spark of passion that begins with you at church.

These are fires that we don’t want to put out, but let them spread and grow.

Meditation for the Day: Is your life on fire for God or are you “quenching” the Holy Spirit? (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

Assignment: Make a list of ways that you can “spark” a conversation or movement for God.

For Fun: Get one of those fireplace videos to put as your screen setter to remind you to be the spark that starts a fire for God.
