And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
President Ferdinand Marcos was the president of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He was deposed from power by the “People’s Revolution” in February of 1986 when he and his wife, Imelda Marcos were exiled to Hawaii. When the people overran the presidential palace they found Mrs. Marcos had over 3,000 pairs of shoes in specially made closets! This is considered the most extensive shoe collection ever. (Jody Geller from Nevada has the largest sneaker collection – 2,388 separate pairs).
I know that most women like shoes and have multiple pairs of shoes for different occasions and different outfits, but that is a lot! What would someone do with that many pairs of shoes? It would take over eight years to wear them all even one time!
Shoes have two purposes: To be serviceable and to look nice. In Song of Solomon 7:1 he compliments his wife “How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince’s daughter!” I guess that means we are supposed to pay attention to our wife’s shoes. It is also a reminder that it is the Gospel that makes our feet beautiful!
I don’t know how many shoes you have but you have one Gospel message that God has called us to put on every day. In Mark 16:15 Jesus commanded us to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Let people see the Gospel in your life, but the Gospel should also be like a comfortable old pair of shoes that you put on so you can go where God has called you to go and tell people about Jesus.
Meditation for the Day: How comfortable are you with the Gospel? Are you prepared every day to tell others about Jesus?
Assignment: Start sharing the Gospel today by passing out tracts. Make a commitment to give out at least one tract daily and invite that person to church.
For Fun: Count how many pairs of shoes you have. Do you wear them all? Which is your favorite? Which ones are the most comfortable?
